LIVESTOCK GUARD DOGS

The Livestock Guard Dog is selected to live permanently with the flock and become part of it like (as an enlarged family so to speak). Still remaining a dog it is able to blend in with the animals it protects and to have social contact  with them.

The fact that he is a dog brings him to adopt protective behaviour for the territory where the flock is or for the individuals that are part of it.

These behaviours are effective to protect sheep against predators like the wolf, bear, lynx, fox and eagle but also against dogs that are not in their owners control which still remains the biggest problem for sheep and goats grazing.
